MAGEN DAVID YESHIVAH HIGH SCHOOL WINS THIRD ANNUAL JANY STUDENT STOCK MARKET CHALLENGE!

Congratulations to Magen David Yeshiva High School who took home top honors at the Third Annual JANY Student Stock Market Challenge Competition sponsored by Merrill Lynch & Best Buy Children's Foundation. More than 68 students (18 teams) from more than 9 NYC high schools competed to win the coveted Student Stock Market Challenge prizes which included winners' trophies and government savings bonds. The competition was emceed by WNBC Education Reporter, Carol Anne Riddell.

L-R: Doug Schallau, president JANY, Eddy Bayardelle, VP Educational Programs-Corporate Responsibility, Merrill Lynch, Best Buy corporate team advisor, Magen David Yeshiva students (Freddy Hidary, Alverto Smeke & Raymond Esses), Pete Conway, Best Buy corporate team advisor and Carole Anne Riddell, WNBC Education Reporter.

New to the competition, the Magen David Yeshiva team bested John Dewey High School, who has won the competition two years in a row. Team members Freddy Hidary, Alverto Smeke, and Raymond Esses (all High School freshmen) were thrilled with the opportunity to participate in the competition and excited by their unexpected victory.

When asked what their strategy was for dominating the trading floor, Raymond Esses replied "There was so much of an adrenaline rush, we just got into the mind-set and went to work. The higher the risk, the higher the reward! I would definitely work on Wall Street because it's exciting to make those big trades."

"You can't always know what's going to happen and sometimes you have to trust your gut and take that risk. We kept our eyes on the stocks and went hard for the one we thought would do best. We got lucky and hit it huge," said team member Alberto Smeke.

Other participating NYC schools included: Brooklyn High Schools Arts & Media Prep Academy, John Dewey High School, and Torah Academy of Brooklyn; Queens High Schools Academy of Finance and Enterprise High School, Information Technology High School, Townsend Harris High School; Manhattan high Schools, High School of Hospitality Management and Stuyvesant High School.
